King Appreciates India’s Development Aid in Preserving Culture and Demining Countryside

INDIA: During his recent state visit, King Norodom Sihamoni thanked India for its contribution to socio-economic development through the provision of loans and grants, especially those spent on the conservation of ancient temples and demining activities in Cambodia.

The King expressed his deep gratitude for India's recognition and support of Cambodia in the most difficult times, both economically and politically, especially after Cambodia was liberated from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot. Indian peacekeepers to join the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) mission for peace talks in Cambodia during the early 1990s.

Both sides expressed strong confidence that the solid foundation of bilateral relations will be an important driving force to continue to push for better cooperation in all areas, which is in the common interest of both countries to grow and deepen ties towards a bright and prosperous future.

In addition to bilateral relations, the two sides also expressed mutual support in the regional and international arenas with the Mekong-Kongkea cooperation, ASEAN and the United Nations. Indian leaders have submitted a proposal to renovate a painting on the Ramayana gallery in the Royal Palace.

The King extended an invitation to Indian President Droupadi Murmu to pay a state visit to Cambodia. The President expressed her gratitude to His Majesty and gladly accepted the invitation.

King Norodom Sihamoni paid a three-day state visit to India on May 29-31 where he held royal audiences with President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, and Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar among others.
